Where the Cruise is going
The cruise start in Miami, Florida. The port is five minute away from downtown, and the thing to see and do in Miami's South Beach: this Art Deco-styled waterfront district has it all--beautifully restored historic buildings, funky shops, and boutiques, elegant restaurants and casual cafes, fabulous people-watching and an awesome wide--and clean beach. Technically, the Art Deco district runs from 6th to 23rd Streets between Ocean and Lenox Avenues and you can take a self-guided Art Deco walking tour (the Art Deco District Welcome Center, 1001 Ocean Drive, has maps). Good sustenance stops include the News Cafe (800 Ocean Drive) for all-day casual fare and, for a great dining experience that's chic-with-a-view, ask for a table on the outdoor patio at The Tides (1220 Ocean Avenue). For serious shopping, head a few blocks west to Lincoln Road (at 17th Street), a four-block-long outdoor shopping promenade with unique boutiques and restaurants.
The next stop on the cruise is Nassau, Bahamas. You will dock at Prince George Wharf, near Rawson Square, in the heart of Nassau. The thing to see and do around here are: Head over to the man-made island of Arawak Cay, a local beach dusted with pastel-colored shacks, incredibly fresh conch from vendors, fried fish and grits, lime-marinated conch, and plenty of coconut milk laced with gin. Very popular, especially with the locals, and very crowded, especially on weekend evenings from 5pm until midnight. On the harbor, across from Fort Charlotte.
The last stop on the cruise is Great Stirrup Cay. Great Stirrup Cay has all the fixings for a perfect day at the beach. A shallow reef close to shore teems with tropical fish of every stripe and coral of every hue, and the deeper waters of Bertram's Cove offer an underwater thrill for more experienced snorkelers. On-shore kiosks provide all the necessary equipment for floating the day away on an inflatable raft or foam mat, or brushing up on rusty sailing skills with an easy-to-maneuver Kis-Kat.
