Packing the right things for your trip to London is very important. You don't want to weigh yourself down with unnecessary items that will take up valuable space in your suitcase. You also don't want to find yourself far from home and in need of something important that you cannot get where you are. Therefore it is useful to plan ahead to ensure that you bring everything you need without lugging the entire contents of your home around in your carry-on.

The clothes you bring with you should depend on the season. The weather in London is not usually very extreme, but it is known to be unpredictable. The best policy is to pack clothing that can be worn layered. Lightweight, easily layered clothing is convenient because layers can be added or removed as necessary depending on conditions. You should also bring a dependable water resistant coat, keeping in mind the season in which you are traveling when it comes to the weight. Keeping clothes all in one complementary color family helps make it easier to layer and coordinate outfits. Save space in your suitcase by packing fewer clothes, and planning to do laundry as needed, either by hand at the hotel or at a local Laundromat.

It is also important to bring a comfortable pair of walking shoes. You will be on your feet a lot when visiting London, so plan accordingly and save yourself the misery of aching feet that might keep you from enjoying your vacation.
A small collapsible umbrella might just be your best friend, so remember to pack one of those as well.

Most people bring toiletries from home, either in approved 3oz or smaller bottles in their carry on, or in larger bottles in their checked baggage. If there is a particular product that you must have and can't live without, by all means bring it with you. However, if you are open to trying something new, leave the shampoo and lotion at home and purchase toiletries when you arrive in London. There are plenty of drugstores there, it's fun to see and try the different products that they carry, and it might save you the potential disaster of exploding shampoo inside your suitcase.
When traveling to London, there is a very good chance that you will arrive via London's Heathrow Airport. Heathrow hotels are convenient to the airport and to many forms of public transportation that can take you all around London. Many people, especially when they are jetlagged after a long flight, choose to go the convenient route and stay at Heathrow airport hotels.
