#1. Loch Ness, Scotland

The mighty Loch Ness is the deepest in the country, which might explain why it’s become notorious as the home of the so-called 'Loch Ness Monster'.

You might not catch sight of Nessy, of course, but it’s still an incredibly beautiful area that extends for around 23 miles.

#2. Ullswater, Cumbria, Lake District

The Lake District’s second-largest lake is around 7.5 miles long and boasts some of the most stun-ning scenery you’ll ever set your sights on. A great starting point for a hike by the Helvellyn moun-tain, the area is also surrounded by many small pubs and villages.

#3. Kielder Water, Northumberland

The largest artificial lake in the UK was built between 1975 and 1981 and is surrounded by idyllic pine forests. If you’re a fan of camping and the great outdoors in general, you’ll find plenty to do here and if a tent seems a bit like slumming it, there are lots of luxury log cabins in the area.

Situated at the southeast point of mainland Britain, this fishhook-shaped lake is separated from the sea by a sliver of a beach, making it perfect for those that long for a day by the seaside but also want to enjoy a decent walk.

The reservoir that supplies water to Exeter, Barnstaple and Axminster, this hidden gem of a lake s snuggled up in the southeast corner of Exmoor National Park. The rolling hillside is a true spectacle and will remind you just how unique the landscape of the UK really is.
