VIDEO: Passengers fight over reclined seat during taxiing on flight to India

Seat reclined during taxiing phase leads to fight onboard.

 

A group of men returning from Bangkok to India on a Thai Smile Airways flight were captured on video fighting over a reclined seat.

 

As the Kolkata-bound plane prepared for departure, one passenger refused to adjust his seats to the upright position for take-off.

 

The incident report said crew explained to him the rationale behind adjusting the seat, telling him that in the case of an emergency, a reclined seat can make evacuation difficult.

 

However, despite the repeated requests, the man did not comply, claiming he had a back-ache.

 

“I fly often, I know what to do,” he allegedly said. The crew then told the passenger that in case he does not follow safety rules, they will report to the pilot. “Ok, tell him. I am not scared,” he replied.

 

In a video posted online, other passengers can be seen arguing with the man before punching and slapping him.

 

The man appears to not hit back and can only be seen defending himself.

 

Co-passengers and cabin crew shout for the men to stop the fight before some flight attendants successfully separate the fighting passengers.

 

Reacting to the video, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) DG Zulfiquar Hasan said, “We’ve taken cognizance of the viral video, which is showing a fight between passengers on a Thai Airways flight to Kolkata. BCAS has sought a detailed report from the concerned authority. Further action is to be taken.”

 

In a bizarre decision by the airline, the plane did not return to the terminal to offload any of the passengers involved in the incident.

 

All the passengers reportedly returned to their seats and the plane took-off to India.
