2023 development preview: citizenM
The brand is set to open three new properties in Miami, Paris, and Austin next year, while 2024 and beyond will see several more citizenM properties being added to its portfolio.
Global additionsThese future additions will include its first hotels in Rome and Dublin, a second hotel in Boston, its third hotels in Miami and DC, and its fifth location in London. Additionally, citizenM will be opening a property in Menlo Park, California as a benchmark project for Facebook’s campus.
Having already doubled in locations since 2018, citizenM continues to seek new developments in key and gateway cities across North America and Europe, with the aim to have 40 operational hotels by 2024.
Miami twiceLooking at next year, the first of the brand’s sites due to open in Q1 is citizenM Miami World Center.
The strand’s second hotel in Miami will open at the Worldcenter mixed use development, following the opening of citizenM Miami Brickell in July 2022.
The 351-room hotel will feature facade artwork by art collaboration FriendsWithYou, while inside will boast four societyM meeting rooms, a gym and a large rooftop pool and bar.
The site’s design architect was Concrete Amsterdam, while its Local Architect was Gensler. Suffolk Construction undertook the build for the developers, Miami Worldcenter Associates and citizenM.
Paris boutiqueNext up in the same quarter will be citizenM Paris Opera. The brand’s fifth hotel in Paris will be one of the smallest properties in the portfolio with 84 rooms. Designed by long-term collaborator, Concrete Amsterdam as well as local architect, Hardel Le Bihan, the boutique-sized hotel will house two societyM meeting rooms and a 24/7 canteenM.
citizenM acted as both investor and developer for the site, while Atixis was the project manager and Crescendo Real Estate development manager. The hotel is being constructed by GCC.
Downtown in AustinAnticipated to open in summer 2023, citizenM will add to its growing US portfolio with the opening of the brand’s first hotel in Austin, Texas, citizenM Austin Downtown. Developed in partnership with Turnbridge Equities, the 17-storey tower will house a 344-room hotel featuring architecture by Baskervill and citizenM’s signature interior design by Amsterdam-based Concrete. Design Workshop undertook the landscape design.
The hotel’s interiors will draw inspiration from the local community, filled with an eclectic mix of contemporary art and objects by local artists. citizenM Austin Downtown will also feature a rooftop pool and bar area, with design by commissioned artist PONI (Hilda Palafox). Other amenities will include a 24/7 canteenM and a gym.
citizenM is developing the hotel alongside Turnbridge Equities, with Gilbane serving as general contractor.
